About Alan Belin
Alan Belin was raised by parents who instilled a love for people and service in Alan at a young age. Alan has been a resident of the southside of Chicago for over fifty years.
Mr. Belin has a diverse range of work experience from a variety of industries, having worked in restaurants, as a business owner in the transportation industry, in construction, and law enforcement. In these roles, Alan Belin built a passion for doing all that he can for people of different walks of life, more specifically the less fortunate. Alan’s work experience also gave him an appreciation for effective communication and determination in pursuit of goals.
Alan is an active, lifelong member of the Apostolic Church of God which stands as a major stakeholder in Chicago’s Woodlawn community. Through the church, Alan Belin has had the opportunity to participate in numerous community programs in the area and has helped develop the underserve population. Alan has helped physically clean streets, has marched for justice, and has helped pass out thousands of pounds of food to those in need, and has assisted with post COVID-19 challenges over the course of his time in community outreach and engagement.
Alan Belin eventually decided to form a coalition of individuals bonded by a passion for helping others and created “Alan O. Belin and Friends”. The coalition pooled financial resources, solicited donations, and began working towards its goal of preparing nutritious, hot meals for the homeless. Alan O. Belin and Friends also hosted barbecues locally, held Thanksgiving and holiday celebrations, collected clothing and toiletries for its community, and volunteered at the Pacific Garden Mission (which is still standing to this day).
In addition to Alan O. Belin and Friends, Alan has founded another non-profit, the Chicago Food Project. The non-profit’s mission is to “Help Hungry Hearts” by connecting those who are in need with nutritious, prepared foods as well as groceries. Since its founding, the Chicago Food Project has impacted hundreds of lives and speaks to how it owes its much of its success to the tremendous response the organization receives from its community.
